Program Mission Statement

The mission of the Associate in Health Science Program is to assist students in gaining admission to Nursing and Allied Health Programs by providing career advice and academic guidance in the completion of pre-requisite coursework.

We will reexamine assessment instruments for next cycle (to ensure that the question bank is large enough for success).

Increase the visibility of the A.S. in Health Science degree to freshmen and undeclared majors

At least one biology faculty member will participate in the “Declare a Major” event sponsored by the Center for Academic Success (CAS)

Dr. Elissa Purnell attended the Declare a Major Workshop held on February 29, 2016.  She answered for the general audience and also spoke with students interested in Nursing or Allied Health careers.

Documentary evidence: Emails requesting participation and acknowledging attendance.

Description of projected use of results from the 2014-2015 academic year that is being addressed in the 2015-2016 academic year: The program maintained relationships with CAS faculty to know how many students are interested in the A.S. in Health Science degree

Description of any changes for improvements which were made during the course of the 2015-2016 academic year: Updated A.S. degree grids were given to CAS staff.

Description of the expected use of results that will be addressed in the 2016-2017 academic year: Increased student enrollment in the A.S. in Health Science will be anticipated during the 2016-2017 academic year.

48 students were designated as seeking the A.S. in Health Science during the fall of 2015; 44 students were declared as A.S. degree seekers in the spring of 2016.

Description of projected use of results from the 2014-2015 academic year that is being addressed in the 2015-2016 academic year: The program continued to get a list of incoming students from CAS

Description of any changes for improvements which were made during the course of the 2015-2016 academic year: Student information (names and ID numbers) were kept on file electronically in the Biology department.

Description of the expected use of results that will be addressed in the 2016-2017 academic year: Information will be used to check on student progress.

Academic Achievement and Engagement

Continue sponsoring information activities for students seeking A.S. in Health Science degree

Continue to hold at least one information session per semester with representatives from schools/colleges with Nursing and Allied Health Programs

Attendance sheets; notification from at least one faculty member of willingness to allow recruiters to speak with class

Representatives from the Medical College of Georgia at Georgia Regent’s University met with students on September 30, 2015.

 

Mr. Mackel Harris from Life University again spent the day on campus and spoke with students on November 23, 2015.

Description of projected use of results from the 2014-2015 academic year that is being addressed in the 2015-2016 academic year: Information from schools were shared with students who were not able to meet with representatives.

Description of any changes for improvements which were made during the course of the 2015-2016 academic year: Formal information sessions were scheduled in the afternoon (4:00 -6:00 P.M. time slots) to maximize ability of students to attend (times normally set aside for college, departmental, and committee meetings)

Description of the expected use of results that will be addressed in the 2016-2017 academic year: School representatives will be contacted to coordinate visits during AY 2016-2017.
